Crafting Ideas

Stuffed Holiday Door Hangers

I had seen a lot of these door decorations on Pinterest and other places, so I wanted to try my hand at making them. Most of them are made of burlap, though, and I am NOT a big fan of the way that looks. So I started investigating and found that some other people were making them out of craft paper. I decided to give it a try.

The first step to this project is to pick out your idea for the decoration. When I started, I wanted to make some of the for Halloween. You can get your ideas form clipart, things you see at stores, or maybe you are just creative enough to come up with an idea out of thin air.

This was my inspiration:

Then you are going to have to buy some supplies. You will need the following:

1. a roll of brown craft paper
(I originally bought mine at Hobby Lobby back by the painting section for about $12 but I discovered that you can get it MUCH cheaper at Walmart in the section where you buy boxes and bubble wrap for mailing)
2. craft paint
I like the glossy kind because I like it to be shiny when I finish. That is completely up to you. These are also available cheaper at Walmart

3. Paint brushes
I recommend getting a pack with several different widths and shapes of brush. That will come in handy when you are having to get into smaller spaces.

4. Some artistic ability OR a way to project your picture on the wall for tracing
I freehand my pictures, but if you are not comfortable with that, you can use a SmartBoard or some other way to project the picture onto the wall to trace. I have even seen people put a picture inside a lampshade to project something on the wall

And that's really all.

So here is what one looks like pretty much BEFORE the painting starts:

So once again, here was my inspiration:

And here are the three decorations I made from that:

Here is another inspiration:

And my version:
Here's my Thanksgiving one:

Here's the penguin one again, mostly finished:

This has been a really fun one to work on. I hope you guys like them!
